KAREN L. BONNIN, ESQUIRE

BOARD MEMBER

Karen is a retired attorney.  She received her BS degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1964.  After relocating to Maryland, she worked on a federal grant as a member of a research team evaluating the District of Columbia Public School System.

In 1975, Karen received her J.D. from University of Baltimore Law School.  She has practiced in the areas of business law, contract law, and representing nonprofit organizations.  She also practiced in the areas of estates and trusts and family matters.  For many years, she was an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Montgomery College.   She has lectured on a variety of legal subjects throughout her career and provided pro bono services to many individuals and nonprofit organizations.

Karen was a member of the MSBA Animal Law Committee which provides a forum for the open exchange of ideas about legal issues that concern the treatment of all animals, protections afforded to animals and the rights and responsibilities of persons who have an interest in animals.  The section further participates in the legislative process promoting their interests.

Karen was a long-term volunteer at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo where she worked with reptiles and amphibians.
